Under the title “Receiving the First Council of Nicaea Today: Ecumenical Learning from Synodal Discernment in the Early Church”, the 22nd Academic Consultation of the Societas Oecumenica explores the relevance of the Council of Nicaea (325) for the contemporary search for Christian unity. The main theme of the Consultation includes the following sub-themes:

(i) Exploring Nicaea: Recent Patristic Research on the Council of Nicaea;

(ii) Appealing to Nicaea: Hermeneutical Reflections;

(iii) Retrieving Nicaea: The Significance of the Nicene Creed in the Life of the Churches;

(iv) Resourcing Nicaea: The Canonical Legacy of the Council;

(v) Inheriting Nicaea: The Charism of Synodal Discernment and its Challenges.
